The family of the former Derry football captain Kevin McCloy have stated that he is in a stable condition after he collapsed while playing or his club Lavey in Owenbeg on Wednesday night.

It is believed that the 2007 All Star lost his pulse for a few minutes before being revived by a defibrillator. He was then brought to Altnagelvin Hospital.

The positive news now is that McCloy has regained consciousness and has spoken to his family.

A statement from McCloy's family said: "Kevin is stable and his condition is continuing to improve, whilst receiving care and attention at Altnagelvin Hospital, where his progress is being monitored.

"The family is very thankful for those who attended to Kevin on Wednesday night at Owenbeg GAA grounds."
