James Horan and Mayo are eyeing a fourth consecutive All-Ireland semi-final appearance

Mayo manager James Horan has hailed the collective strength of his side ahead of Sunday’s All-Ireland SFC quarter-final against Cork at Croke Park.

For the second time in four seasons, the Green and Red square up to their southern rivals at the last-eight stage. Back in 2011, Mayo surprised the then All-Ireland champions, running out four-point winners.

This weekend, Horan’s charges are favourites to reach another semi-final and the manager feels he has his troops in good shape.

Preview: Mayo v Cork

“I really feel we’re strong all over” was Horan’s summation when he spoke to RTÉ.

“Our half-forward line the last day {against Galway} did very, very well. I know they’ll do well again. I’m looking forward to our inside line showing what they’ve got as well.

“All over the field, were lucky that we’ve have very skilful players and we’re looking to show that skill on Sunday.”

Horan’s counterpart, Brian Cuthbert , believes his squad have it in them to improve and so match the Connacht champions.

Speaking to RTÉ, Cuthbert said: “We’re going to have to improve on what we did last week {against Sligo}. Do I think the side are capable of improving? Absolutely, yes!

"We are capable of playing better football. We have to perform close to our best to win this game. That’s where we’re at."
