Offaly manager Emmet McDonnell says his team are sticking together, despite failing to win a game in the Allianz Football League.

McDonnell won promotion from Division 4 with the Faithful County last season but six defeats and a draw, against Fermanagh on Sunday, meant that their stay in Division 3 was short-lived.

Offaly face Longford, who were also relegated to the bottom tier, away on 18 May, looking for their first Leinster Championship win since 2007.

After the draw with Fermanagh, McDonnell told Midlands Sport: “We just had a quick chat there, and while the players are disappointed, there is great energy there.

"It’s very easy [to] criticise them but they’re working very, very hard and they’re trying to improve.

“They’re sticking together and we can see in other counties around the country that there are lads leaving panels when results are not going their way.

"These lads are sticking together and that’s fantastic character to have.”
