A comprehensive 5-16 to 0-16 victory Leitrim in Carrick-on-Shannon saw Tipperary footballers clinch promotion back to Division 3 of the Allianz League.

Early goals from Brian Fox and Conor Sweeney set the Munster men on their way and a third green flag, courtesy of Philip Austin, had them 3-08 to 0-10 clear at the break.

Sweeney bagged a second goal after the break and with Ian Fahey also slotting home a three-pointer, Peter Creedon's outfit were celebrating their promotion long before the final whistle.

Clare strengthened their bid for a return to the third tier with a 3-21 to 2-10 win over Carlow in Ennis.

David Tubridy contributed 1-09 for the Banner County, who now lie second in the table on nine points.

Behind them are Wicklow on eight. Seanie Furlong hit two goals in their 2-14 to 0-12 success over Waterford in Aughrim.

In today's other match Antrim ran out 3-15 to 1-10 winners over London in Ruislip.

The final series of games in the division take place next Sunday. Clare will go up if they win away to Antrim. Wicklow and Leitrim remain the shake-up for the final promotion spot, with away trips to Tipperary and London respectively in store for them.
