Cork midfielder Alan O'Connor has announced his retirement from the inter-county scene, adding to the list of players that have already called time on their Rebel footballing career.

O'Connor's decision is something of a surprise, given that he was included in the pre-season panel named by new manager Brian Cuthbert.

The 28-year-old, who has been on the panel since 2008, was an All-Ireland winner in 2010 and is also the holder of four Allianz League medals

With Ciarán Sheehan having signed with AFL side Carlton Blues, this latest announcement is a further blow to Cuthbert in his preparation for 2014.

Graham Canty, Pearse O'Neill, Paudie Kissane, Noel O'Leary and Alan Quirke have all called time on their county careers in the last few weeks.
