Kildare's players will meet tonight to discuss their response to the managerial change in the county after the departure of Kieran McGeeney.
A county board meeting on Tuesday discussed the issue and when it was put to a vote the Armagh man lost out by 29 votes to 28.
A statement released by the GPA on their behalf read: "In light of the Kildare County Board’s decision not to extend Kieran McGeeney’s term as manager in last night's vote, despite the expressed support of the Kildare Senior Football squad for the manager’s retention, the panel will hold a meeting tonight to discuss issue further and formulate a response."
Many Kildare players reacted with disappointment to last night's news that Kieran McGeeney has been axed.
Members of the panel took to Twitter to have their say. Emmet Bolton said: "58 club delegates who have never seen us train went into a room tonight and decided what was best for us.
"They totally disregarded our opinions over the last couple of weeks. A disgraceful way to treat a man who put so much heart and effort into Kildare football.
"Gutted that Kieran is gone. The effort that he put in over the last six years is beyond belief. It was a privilege to learn and work under him."
Brian Flanagan added: "The commitment, decency and professionalism shown by Geezer to his players over the past six years will not be forgotten by us, the players."
Daniel Flynn became part of the senior panel for the first time this year and was a member of the under-21 Leinster title winning team under McGeeney.
He stated: "Absolutely sick. Joke that people who haven't got a clue about what goes on behind the scenes have an input at all, let alone the final say."
Eamonn Callaghan was damning in his verdict: "I've never been ashamed in my life to be a Kildare footballer, until tonight. Gutted."
McGeeney joined the Lilywhites in late 2007 and guided the county to an All-Ireland semi-final and five quarter finals, but failed to win a Leinster or All-Ireland title during his tenure
