Westmeath goalkeeper Gary Connaughton has called time on his senior inter-county career after 10 years between the posts.

The 33-year-old made his decision following Westmeath’s defeat to Fermanagh in the All-Ireland Qualifiers at the weekend.

The Tubberclair clubman was on the team that won the Lake County’s only Leinster title in 2004 and was rewarded with an All Star in 2008.

Connaughton also played in the League of Ireland with Athlone Town and was also a triallist with Newcastle United in the Premier League.
