Galway claimed the Cadbury Connacht Under-21 Football title after a 1-17 to 2-11 extra-time win over Roscommon in Dr Hyde Park.

The Tribesmen trailed by three with five minutes to play in normal timed but pegged back the holders to force extra time.

Cathal Mulryan scored a goal for Galway in the opening minute but Smith and Finbarr Cregg raised green flags for the Rossies to leave the sides level on 1-11 to 2-08 after 60 minutes.

Galway’s Eoin Walsh and Donie Smith of Roscommon were both sent off in the second half of normal time.

However, in the extra period, it was man-of-the-match Ian Burke (0-07) who made the difference as Galway booked an All-Ireland semi-final date with Kildare.
