Cavan recorded a four-point win over Armagh in the Power NI Dr McKenna Cup - while Derry were too good for UUJ following Saturday night's action.

Cavan were 3-09 to 1-11 winners at the Athletic Grounds.

Early goals from Tomás Corr and Martin Dunne helped the Breffni county into a 2-05 to 1-05 half-time lead before 2,346 spectators.

Gavin McParland goaled for the home side just before the break and a bright start to the second period saw them level the game with three points.

However, Dunne was on hand to goal again for Cavan on 42 minutes and they were never headed again as they went on to claim their first win in this year's competition.

Derry also bagged their first victory of 2013, as their new manager Brian McIver watched them defeat UUJ 1-13 to 0-06 at Celtic Park.

Ciaran McFaul's goal for the winners saw them build up a 1-06 to 0-03 advantage at the break.

They added to their tally with some fine points on the resumption, with Lee Kennedy, who came on for Eoin Bradley, showing well as the Oakleafers look to find a greater momentum to their play than was the case last season.
