Leitrim kicked off their season with a morale-boosting win over Roscommon in a low-scoring match in the FBD League.

Conor Beirne scored the winning point for the visitors in a 0-06 to 0-05 win in Elphin.

Cathal Cregg’s point had given Roscommon a three-point lead eight minutes into the second period, but four in-a-row from Leitrim secured the win.

Galway were 10-point victors against NUIG. Michael Meehan put the Tribesmen in front and they led 0-06 to 0-03 at the break before pulling away in the second period, winning 0-16 to 0-06.

Elsewhere, Sligo produced an assured performance to beat IT Sligo 0-14 to 0-05.

Niall Murphy and Mark Breheny scored 0-05 each for Kevin Walsh’s men.
