It has emerged that Croke Park has written to the Laois County Board inviting the county hurlers to participate in next season's Christy Ring Cup.

The County Board chairman Brian Allen told the Leinster Express newspaper that they may refuse to take up in the invitation, although it is not clear where that will leave the team.

Only eight players showed up at a meeting last week to plan for next season and a manager still has not yet been appointed.

Laois lost to Limerick by 25 points in the qualifiers this year, and last year Cork beat them by 34 points.
