Des Newton has ended his tenure as manager of the Roscommon football team.

Newton, who won an All-Ireland Under-21 Football title and two Connacht SFC titles during his time as a player with Roscommon, succeeded Fergal O'Donnell last November.

The Rossies endured a miserable Championship, suffering a 14-point provincial pounding by Galway, before Tyrone recorded an 11-point victory over Newton’s charges in the qualifiers.

The county board will meet next week to discuss the process of appointing a new man to the helm.
