Garrycastle will take on Crossmaglen Rangers in the AIB All-Ireland Club SFC final after beating St Brigid’s in a tight encounter in Pearse Park today.
It was a full deserved win for 14-man Garrycastle with St Brigid’s failing to convert chances at crucial times in a disappointing display.
Brigid’s lead by two points at the break but Garrycastle were much the better side in the second period as James Dolan’s goal and an inspired performance from Dessie Dolan sealing a two-point win.
The Westmeath champions made a fine start to race in a three-point lead. James Dolan, Paul Dillon and James Deignan hit the score before Cathal McHugh and Senan Kilbride hit back for St Brigid’s.
Mannion’s penalty gave Brigid’s a 1-03 to 0-04 lead but Dolan helped Garry Castle get back level with two scores before the break in a personal haul of 0-07.
Dessie Dolan continued to hit the target in the second period and when James Dolan found the net, Garrycastle has open up a 1-10 to 1-06 advantage.
Brigid’s tried to find their way back into the game, and were aided by the dismissal of David Shaughnessy, but Garrycastle held on to win by two points.
