Heavy fog forced the abandonment of Mayo’s match with Dublin at the half-time in McHale Park in the Allianz Football League Division 1 clash tonight.

Dublin led by 0-08 to 0-05 at the break but fog was descending over the Castlebar venue as the night went on and it meant the game could not continue.

Referee Martin Duffy firstly extended the half-time break but eventually a decision was made that the game could not restart.

It was a huge disappointment to the supporters after a thrilling opening period. Mayo opened up a two-point lead through Cillian O’Connor and Conor Mortimer frees.

The Dubs came roaring back with three points from Diarmuid Connolly and two from Tomas Quinn.

That period of dominance actually produced seven points in succession for the away side.

James McCarthy was given a straight red card for an elbow on Alan Freeman and Mayo managed to cut the Dublin lead to three-points at the interval.

The fog ruined the chances of more action in the second-half and the CCCC will decide on Monday when the game can be replayed.
