Former All-Star Paddy Keenan has welcomed the addition of Donegal All-Ireland winning manager Brian McEniff to the Louth backroom team for the forthcoming season.

McEniff, who managed Donegal to their only All-Ireland title in 1992, has agreed to join Peter Fitzpatrick’s management team as a selector for the season.

Keenan, speaking to RTÉ’s Brian Carthy, said: “Brian McEniff has a wealth of experience, not only with Donegal but also with Ulster in the Railway Cup and also with Ireland. If you can’t draw something from him you can’t draw something from anyone.

“He will be a great help to the backroom team and a great help to the players, and we will be glad to get him as hands-on as possible.”

The star midfielder also welcomed the addition of former Armagh forward Johnny Murtagh to the Louth squad.

This will be Murtagh’s third inter-county team, having also played for New York.

“It might help buck up some of the players who may have been sitting in the comfort zone,” admitted Keenan.

“There is another place there to be taken now, and the players that are already there will have to fight to keep Johnny, and others, out of the team.

“Hopefully he can bring a few bits across from Armagh, as well as a bit of an insight into how they prepare. Whatever he can provide we will gladly take from him.”

Louth face Meath in the Bord na Móna O’Byrne Cup on Sunday in Navan.
