Kerry’s Bryan Sheehan says that his team’s four-week lay-off is far from the ideal preparation for an All-Ireland SFC quarter-final.

The Munster champions, who play Limerick in Croke Park on Saturday, throw-in 2.00pm, have been kicking their heels since the final against Cork a month ago and the midfielder is critical of the system.

“Something has to be done regarding the timing between games. Kerry played four weeks ago and it’s three weeks before we know who we’re playing.

"If we knew a couple of weeks in advance who we were playing, we could probably aim ourselves a bit towards that,” Sheehan said.

“It’s very frustrating to be sitting around not knowing who you're training for, whereas some teams are playing a week after losing a provincial championship or two weeks after winning one.

"At the end of the day, TV and sponsors are put ahead of the players,” he added.

Jack O’Connor’s team beat the Treatymen by 11 points in the Munster semi-final in early June, but since then Limerick have gained momentum, with convincing wins against Offaly and Waterford, as well as a dramatic one-point victory against Wexford last weekend.
