A final day victory in Barcelona proved enough for Sant Vicent of Valencia to win the Iberian Gaelic Football Championship for the first time on Saturday.

The Valenicanos had already won tournaments in Pamplona and at home in Valencia and finished in style with a victory in the decisive final round in the Catalan capital.

This year’s championship was hotly contested over five tournaments with teams from Barcelona, Madrid, Pamplona, Valencia, Marbella, Seville and A Coruna competing.

In the final match against Barcelona, Sant Vicent built an early lead, but the experienced Catalan side kept themselves in touch with two quick-fire goals before half-time.

But Valencia began the second half in a determined manner and scored a couple of goals of their own to take control of the match, and ran out 2-9 to 2-5 winners, securing a first ever Championship success.

In the Ladies' Championship, Madrid Harps had already done enough to ensure that the trophy would remain in the Spanish capital by winning the four previous rounds in Seville, Madrid, Pamplona and Valencia.
