Kernan's time as Galway boss is over

Joe Kernan’s brief tenure as Galway football boss came to an end following a county board meeting on Wednesday night.
The Armagh native tendered his resignation by letter to the board and it was accepted by officials. It is believed he made the decision to quit after requests to have additional staff on his backroom team were turned down.
Sligo manager and two-time Galway All-Ireland winner Kevin Walsh tops the list of potential candidates to take up the reins.
Kernan took over from Liam Sammon last year, but his first season was not a success. Galway maintained top flight status in the league after wins over Tyrone and Dublin late in the campaign.
The championship season was almost over before it started in New York, but a glowing performance from Padraic Joyce resulted in a 2-13 to 0-12 victory. But after fighting back to draw against Sligo in Pearse Stadium, Galway were then defeated by Kevin Walsh’s side in the replay in Markievicz Park, before bowing out altogether against Wexford.
