GAA President Christy Cooney has confirmed that the presentations of the All-Ireland Football and Hurling titles will take place on the pitch in Croke Park this year.
Concerns have been raised about the safety of fans and players during pitch invasions, especially after the controversial conclusion to the Leinster Football final earlier this month in which referee Martin Sludden came under attack from Louth supporters.
Cooney told the Irish Examiner: ‘The focus is on the All-Ireland finals now, and we’re going to make the presentation in the middle of the pitch.
‘We’re going to have ourselves organised to make sure we have no pitch invasions.
‘I’m very optimistic we will put everything in place to make sure that happens, but we can’t do that without the support of spectators.
‘The last thing we want to do is put fencing up around Croke Park.’
