The Cavan county board have confirmed that Tommy Carr has stepped down as manager of their senior football side.

Carr’s decision comes on the back of their heavy defeat by Cork in the All-Ireland qualifiers, after Fermanagh had beat them in the Ulster Championship.

A statement from the board read: ‘Following Cavan's exit from the All-Ireland football Championship series, that coincided with the end of two years as manager of the Cavan senior team, Cavan County Board afforded Tom Carr the time to reflect on his involvement with the County panel.

‘After some considerable thought Tom now believes that it would be to the benefit of all involved for him to step aside as manager of the Cavan Senior team, and in doing so he wishes the best for Cavan football.’
