Sligo forward David Kelly is determined to build on the Yeats County’s shock win against Mayo in the Connacht Football Championship on Saturday.
Kelly was man-of-the-match in Markievicz Park, terrorising the Mayo defence and notching 0-03 in Sligo’s 0-15 to 1-08 success.
He told The Saturday Game: ‘We came in at half-time after a poor half-time and said we had done way too much training to go out like that and we came out in the second half and gave a good performance.
‘I think winning Division 4 last year gave us great momentum coming into this year.
'There is not much between the teams across Ireland. I think (you need) a lot of belief and hard work and then there is not much between teams.
'It is great to get the win today. Today is a great day but it is only one win on the board and we want to keep going from this.'
Kelly’s manager Kevin Walsh was equally pleased to see Sligo record their first win over Mayo in ten years.
With some pundits questioning the desire of the Mayo players, Walsh was quick to praise his side for their efforts.
‘It is all about the attitude of the team on the day. I can’t question those boys and I was hoping we’d move on from last year with the one or two “good losses” if that is what you want to call them.
‘But you can’t live on those all your life and I’m delighted the boys went out and put in a good performance like that.’
