Motion looks for more extra-time

Saturday's Special Congress at the Citywest Hotel will deal with a motion regarding the possibility of more extra-time in the early rounds of the championship.
For the 2009 Championship season, extra-time was to be played in all games that ended level at the end of normal time up to the provincial semi-final stage this. As it transpired, the new rule was required only once when Westmeath needed extra-time to beat Wicklow in their Leinster SFC quarter-final at Tullamore.
However, it was also planned to play an extra five minutes each way if teams were still level after 90 minutes, though this had to be held off due to potential complications with TV schedules and other fixtures around the country.
But it is expected to be passed into ruled this weekend with the new rule declaring that if teams are still level after the prescribed extra-time, two further periods of five minutes each way shall be played.
