Dublin defender Bryan Cullen has admitted the Metropolitans are taking inspiration from Kerry in their attempts to land a first All-Ireland SFC title since 1995.

The Dubs won the last four Leinster Championships under Paul 'Pillar' Caffrey, but failed to even reach an All-Ireland final in that time.

Skerries Harps clubman Cullen says that, under new manager Pat Gilroy, the men from the capital after trying to become less predictable, and introduce a Plan B to their game.

'Pillar would have been more about a structured game plan and while it did get us fairly far and very close it didn’t quite get us over the line,' Cullen told today's Irish Examiner.

'I suppose Pat feels that bit of creativity, that bit of spark that Kerry always show in the last five or ten minutes of big games is what he's trying to bring out of us.

'At times, I suppose, teams would have been able to put on a video of ourselves and quickly be able to establish our style of play.'

Cullen says that staleness is being beaten out of the Dubs ahead of their provincial clash with Meath at Croke Park on 7 June.

'Mickey Whelan (Dublin coach) would often stop training games and talk to lads, ask them why they did one thing and not something else, just getting lads thinking on their toes a bit more rather than just routinely doing the same thing over and over.

'It's about being able to mix it up yourself on the pitch.'
