Derry's James Kielt (1-05) top-scored as Queen's University knocked holders Down out of the McKenna Cup, following a six-point win at Pairc Esler, Newry.

Despite the sides being level at 1-05 to 0-08 at the interval, with Cathal Magee bagging Down's goal, Ross Carr's charges were on the back foot in the second half.

Kielt's goal opened up a five-point gap four minutes after the restart, and although Down pressed hard, an excellent display by Charlie Vernon at midfield helped pave the way for a Queen’s win.
