A survey published today suggests that a sizeable majority of GAA supporters in Cork back the players in their dispute with the Cork County Board.

The RED C poll in this morning's Irish Examiner indicates that the Cork footballers and hurlers enjoy 56 per cent support from fans with 23 per cent backing the county board.

Seventy per cent of the 500 adults polled believe the county board's actions have undermined Cork's prospects this year.

Almost two thirds of those questioned believe that football manager Teddy Holland should stand down.

The footballers and hurlers of Cork have been on strike since the autumn when a county board motion gave officials the power to choose selectors to serve with the county's GAA managers.

Previously, the manager had the final say over his backroom team.
