Wicklow boss Mick O’Dwyer admits that he is unsure if Tommy Walsh will play for the Garden County this Saturday against Dublin in the O’Byrne Cup.

Walsh quit Carlow last year to join Wicklow, but new Carlow boss Paul Bealin has said he wants Walsh back and intends on persuading him to rejoin his native county.

Walsh’s brother Patrick is back in the Carlow fold after a year out.

‘I couldn’t tell you what’s happening there’ O’Dwyer said. ‘We hope he'll be playing against Dublin on Saturday evening that's for sure.

'He played very well last year after being kept out of football for a long while due to technicalities and all sorts. But he's a fine footballer and a gentleman.’

Bealin had said: 'I will be talking with Thomas this week. It's in our interests to talk to him.

'Thomas is a huge player out of midfield. I'm anxious to have him as part of my squad. I hope to persuade him to return to his native county.'
