Pat Kelly celebrates hitting the equalising point for St Vincent's

The AIB Leinster Club Senior Football Championship became embroiled in controversy following the quarter-finals of the competition that were played this afternoon.

At Newbridge, Moorefield of Kildare and Dromard of Longford finished level at 1-08 apiece.

Ronan Sweeney scored Moorefield's goal from the penalty spot, with Dromard's goal coming from Francis McGee on the stroke of half-time. Extra-time was played after which the two sides still could not be separated at 1-12 to 1-12 and so a replay will be needed.

Meanwhile, St Vincent's (Dublin) and Seneschalstown (Meath) also finished level at Parnell Park on a scoreline of 0-11 to 1-08.

Joe Sheridan netted the Seneschalstown goal as the Royal champions had to contend with the sending-off of Colin Clarke. Brian Sheridan kicked three crucial second half points for Seneschalstown, leaving Vincent's needing a late point from half-back Pat Kelly to level matters.

It appeared that some of the players were expecting extra-time but the referee called a halt. Different rules were applied at the different venues but, either way, both matches will have to be replayed.

Tyrellspass of Westmeath are into the semi-finals after a 2-06 to 0-11 points win over Eire Óg from Carlow and Portlaoise beat St Patrick's of Louth by 1-14 to 0-05.

Ballyboden St Enda's from Dublin are into the Leinster hurling semi-final after a 1-17 to 0-15 win over Oulart-the-Ballagh from Wexford.

In the Connacht football semi finals, Ballina Stephenites of Mayo beat Tourlestrane of Sligo 1-08 to 1-04 and St Brigid's (Roscommon) beat Killererin (Galway) by 4-10 to 1-11.

Ballina's goal came via from Shane Sweeney in the 18th minute. The score had been 1-03 to 0-03 at the break to Ballina, with Tourlestrane’s second half goal scored by Gerry McGowan from the penalty spot.

There were two goals from David O'Connor, one from Cathal McHugh and a Karl Mannion penalty for St Brigid's, while Padraig Joyce scored 1-09 for Killererin. Brigid's had led 3-04 to 0-07 at the break.

Two of the four Munster football quarter finals were played today. Nemo Rangers of Cork beat Moyle Rovers (Tipperary) by 1-14 to 2-06. Brian Mulvihill and Padraig Kelly got the goals for the Tipp champions, with Paul Kerrigan scoring for Nemo Rangers. James Masters also contributed 0-08 points for the Cork side. Nemo had led 1-07 to 1-02 at half time.

In the other game in the province, Kilcummin from Kerry beat Lissycasey of Clare by 1-09 to 1-05. David Brosnan was responsible for the Kingdom side's first-half major, while Danny Lynch got a three-pointer for the Claremen midway through the second half.
