Former Limerick manager Liam Kearns is the latest name to emerge as a contender for the Mayo senior football managerial vacancy.

Kearns' nomination with be discussed with six other candidates at a County Board meeting tonight in Castlebar.

The other candidates nominated include John O'Mahoney, Martin Carney, former player Denis Kearney, Martin Trench, Eamon Clarke and Tomas Jordan. O'Mahoney and Carney have been quick to rule themselves out of contention before the discussions begin.

Kearns, a Kerry native, stepped down in the aftermath of Limerick's loss to Derry in the All-Ireland qualifier series earlier this summer.
