Kildare football manager Kieran McGeeney has confirmed to radio station KFM that Seanie Johnston has sought an official club transfer to a Kildare team.

It is understood that the former Cavan star wants to leave his current club, Cavan Gaels, to join north Kildare side St Kevin's of Staplestown.

Johnston has been excluded from the Cavan panel by manager Val Andrews. A club move could potentially clear the way for the forward to play with the Lilywhites this season.

McGeeney has previously said that while he would welcome Johnston, he would have to prove himself like any other player.
