Meath call time on O'Brien's tenure
Meath are beginning the search for a new football manager after Eamonn O'Brien lost a vote of confidence at a county board meeting in Navan last night.
The Meath management committee had recommended that O'Brien be ratified for a third season in charge of the Royals, but delegates opposed the motion by a vote of 32-29 following a secret ballot.
The recommendation was opposed first by the St Patrick's club from Stamullen, whose delegate had been vocal in his opposition at the last board meeting.
O'Brien landed the Meath post in November 2008, taking over from Colm Coyle, and guided the county to a place in the All-Ireland semi-finals in his first year in charge.
The Royals won their first Leinster title in nine years this season when they overcame Louth in hugely controversial circumstances, but a Delaney Cup was not enough to save O'Brien's job.
As of now, there is no obvious candidate to step in as Meath seek their fourth manager since the retirement of Sean Boylan in 2005.
