Kildare have confirmed they want to keep Kieran McGeeney as manager of the senior football team.

McGeeney's three-year term ended with the Lillywhites' All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Down last Sunday and county chairman Padraig Ashe has been quick to say they want the Armagh man to continue as manager.

'The dust has to settle a bit and then we'll see where it goes, but I haven't changed what my intention has been since I came in as chairman and I have made that clear to Kieran as well,' Ashe told The Irish Independent.

'We will sit down and see if there are some issues that need to be discussed and ironed out, but I have always wanted Kieran to stay, and that was from before we went on this great run.'
