Gilroy hails 'tremendous' Dubs performance
Dublin manager Pat Gilroy hailed his side's 'tremendous' performance after their 1-15 to 0-13 win over Tyrone to reach the semi-finals of the GAA Football Championship.
Speaking to RTÉ Sport, Gilroy said: 'It was tremendous work from all 20 guys that we put out there. The team has grown in confidence and strength since we got beaten in Leinster and the route we have gone has been very productive for sure.
'Everybody was working for each other today and when you do that you've a good chance of success.'
Gilroy admitted that while he did expect a strong performance from his side, he didn't necessarily see them overcoming Tyrone: 'I was hoping that performance would come, but that surpassed our expectations so we're in bonus territory.'
The Dublin boss insisted that his side will 'most likely go in as underdogs the next day'. Dublin will play the winner of Roscommon v Cork.
Tyrone manager Mickey Harte lamented his side's inability to convert chances into scores.
'[We] couldn't get enough scores to win the game. Our return for the shots that we created wasn't good enough. That's thanks to Dublin as well. They worked extremely hard, they fought for every inch, and deserved their victory.
Harte also re-iterated his belief that the current system does not help provincial champions.
'[The qualifier route] gives teams a chance to recover. The provincial champions should get a second chance. They don't, and it's an unfair system at the moment. And I've said that before we lost today, so it's not just about losing today.'
