The neck injury Limerick's Tadhg Flynn suffered on Sunday in the Allianz NHL match against Waterford isn't as bad as first feared.

The Treaty 'keeper went to ground after an accidental clash with Waterford's Eoin McGrath and fears were raised when the Ahane club man had to be immobilised and placed on spinal board before being removed from the ground via an ambulance.

However, he was cleared to leave hospital on Monday night after tests and is expected to resume training later in the week, although he is not expected to line out against Tipperary on Sunday.

A spokesman for the Ahane club told the Irish Examiner: 'Whatever way he fell, he was a small bit concussed, but he was fine again last night - our own senior hurling manager spoke to him and confirmed that.

'He'll probably miss the next match, but that will be a call by the Limerick medical team.

'He was taken to hospital but it was purely as a precautionary measure. The paramedics at the game weren't sure whether or not there was a problem and in that situation you can't take any chances, so he was immobilised and taken to hospital. He is okay now and will be fine in a few days.'
