Carlow beat Longford by a goal in their opening Allianz National Football League Division 4 clash at Dr Cullen Park, winning by 1-10 to 0-10.

The sides were level at 0-04 apiece after a dull first half, which was littered with wasted chances.

However, the encounter sparked into life after the break and John Murphy's goal 15 minutes into the half gave the home side the impetus to go on to claim the victory.

In Cusack Park, Clare edged out Wicklow by a single point, winning 1-09 to 0-11.

Clare's goal came from Gearoid Lynch in the second-half, but they still had to rely on a last-gasp point from David Tubridy to claim the spoils.

Meanwhile, in Ballinamore, Waterford proved too strong for Leitrim, running out 0-13 to 0-10 winners.

John Owens' men could even afford to miss a second-half penalty, with Robert Ahern spurning the chance to make his side's victory ever more emphatic.

In the day's early kick-off, Limerick eased to a routine 0-17 to 1-4 victory over London at Ruislip.
