The Leinster Council has handed out fines and suspensions to Laois and Kildare following the 28-man fracas that broke out late in the first half of the two counties' O'Byrne Cup encounter in Portlaoise last Sunday.

Both sides have been fined €7000, while Laois stars Billy Sheehan, Kevin Meaney, Peter O'Leary and Denis Booth have been hit with four-week bans. Kildare's John Doyle also faces a month on the sidelines and team-mate Morgan O'Flaherty is out for eight weeks following his citing for an alleged kick in the report of referee Syl Doyle.

Booth, who received two yellow cards, was the only player sanctioned not to have been shown a straight red card in the hot-tempered contest.

The players have three days to seek personal hearings to appeal their suspensions.
