Kerry star Murphy announces retirement
Kerry goalkeeper Diarmuid Murphy had decided to retire from inter-county football, according to a newspaper report.
The three-time All Star was among several Kingdom players who were understood to be considering whether or not to play another year after last year's All-Ireland success.
The 34-year-old told the Irish Examiner that a continuing back complaint that required medication to control it had played a role in his decision.
Midfielder Darragh O'Se is also thought to be considering his future but with Kerry unlikely to be a major force in the Allianz National League - according to manager Jack O'Connor - there is scope for the An Gaeltacht star to be involved later in the season.
Kieran Donaghy will also be rested for the early part of the League.
Kerry have also lost Tommy Walsh and Tadhg Kenneally to Australian Rules.
