Rory Kavanagh will not be available for selection for Donegal until later on in the Allianz NFL as he is going on a travelling holiday.

He will depart shortly on an around-the-world trip and won't be back in Ireland until April.

He told the Irish News: 'As far back as I can remember football has always been there and quite often the club has been involved right up to December.

'Then it is back to action in January and that is the real reason for it.

'If I don't do it now I might not get another chance as there could be other things going on in a person's life. It is a break I need and I intend to come back refreshed.

'I had planned this trip for some time but had to get the all-clear from my superior in the Department of Education. I am taking off until April, which means I will be back towards the end of the National League.

'John Joe took me in and made me captain last year and I appreciate that, but I am looking forward to the break.

'I won't have much time to prepare for the championship clash with Down. It will be a case of straight into the action.

'And they (Down) will have Brian McIver, who will have them very well-briefed, and that also adds a bit more spice to the encounter.'
