The Gaelic Players Association has endorsed the GAA's decision to hold the trophy presentations at this year's All-Ireland finals on the Croke Park pitch.

In a move that is designed to avoid the recent pitch invasions which have to led to health and safety concerns for fans, the GAA have asked fans to stay off the pitch.

The GPA backed the decision and released a statement which read: 'We would like to appeal to supporters not to enter the Croke Park pitch after Sunday's All-Ireland hurling final as a mark of respect to players from both sides but particularly those from the losing squad who wish to remain on the pitch for the presentation.

'The GPA endorses the GAA's request in this regard and acknowledges the health and safety issues involved for both supporters and players.

'The GPA would like to wish the Kilkenny and Tipperary squads the very best of luck and thank fans from both counties for their continued support of the players throughout the season.'
