Murphy quits Sydney Swans
Carlow's Brendan Murphy has quit Australian Rules football after two years with the Sydney Swans.
Murphy had played over 20 games for the Swans' reserve side but hadn't yet made the step up to the senior side.
His time in Australia was hampered by injury, which stalled his progress, while this season he underwent reconstructive shoulder surgery.
Although the club accepted Murphy's decision, they were sympathetic to his reasons and are open to the prospect that he may return at some point in the future.
Earlier this month Murphy signed a new contract with the AFL club but has since had a change of heart.
