Mayo matchwinner Peadar Gardiner revealed his delight at Mayo's dramatic late victory over Galway in Sunday's Connacht SFC final.

Gardiner's injury-time point proved the difference between the two great rivals as Mayo sealed their first provincial crown since 2006 with a 2-12 to 1-14 win at Pearse Park.

Speaking in today's Irish Daily Star, Gardiner said: 'I was delighted I was there to kick it. It's a whole 30-man panel, a great management team and backroom team and we're just delighted we won.

'Conor [Mortimer] got a great goal, well set up by Trevor [Mortimer] and we were seven up but we stepped back.'

He insisted: 'We'll have to learn from that, but we're just delighted to get over the line.'
