Antrim insist relegation rules are unfair

The draw for the All-Ireland SHC relegation phase seems certain to cause controversy when it takes place next Sunday.

If Antrim lose in the play-offs, they will join Offaly and the losers of the Wexford v Limerick and Clare v Galway in a relegation play-off to determine who takes the major drop in grade from the Liam McCarthy Cup to the Christy Ring Cup.

The Saffrons are outraged by the prospect of such a scenario as they insist that they were guaranteed a three-year exemption in the Leinster SHC which ruled out the prospect of relegation.

In previous years, the bottom team in the Liam McCarthy Cup faced the winner of the Christy Ring Cup to decide who would play in the elite competition the following season, but a change made at Congress means that the winner of Sunday's clash between Carlow and or Down are already guaranteed that honour.
