Kerry set for several changes
Recently returned Mike McCarthy could be set for a starting berth at centre-back as Kerry bid to reignite their Championship campaign against Longford on Saturday evening.
The Kilcummin clubman is just one of a whole host of changes manager Jack O'Connor is expected to make to the side beaten by bitter rivals Cork in their last encounter.
The 31-year-old last represented the county in 2006.
Seamus Scanlon and Anthony Maher are just two of the names expected to be restored to the Kerry side for qualifier.
Tadhg Kennelly and Paul Galvin will not feature at the weekend after failing to recover from injury.
'I would say there will have to be a number of changes,' O'Connor told the Irish Examiner.
'A lot of fellows played good football during the league and this might be the ideal time to give them a taste of the real thing.
'Sometimes a run of games can be a good for a team because in the league we played good football when we had games week after week. Players prefer games over training.
'We did not meet for 10 days after the loss to Cork.
'Sometimes a break is good and the lads returned determined to have another crack at it and seeing the intensity and the way training has gone, it augurs well and we will see on Saturday what shape we are in.'
