The 2008 Cork hurling panel are seeking club backing

The Cork hurling row rumbles on after the 2008 Cork squad last night asked the county's clubs to bring a motion of no confidence in manager Gerald McCarthy.

The players, who are currently striking because of the way McCarthy was appointed as manager, met with over 140 clubs in the region in a meeting that lasted over two-and-half hours.

The packed attendance at last night's meeting was undoubtedly a boost for the striking 2008 Cork hurling panel.

The players were given a standing ovation as they arrived but, if anything, that underlines the divide within hurling in the county: less than a fortnight ago delegates representing the same clubs voted overwhelmingly in support of Gerald McCarthy.

Those attending last night's meeting would appear to want change, though.

GAA clubs throughout Cork will meet over the next fortnight to consider bringing motions to the county board which, if passed, would bring Gerald McCarthy's term as manager to an end and change the way inter-county management teams are appointed here in the future.
