Round-up of Sunday's Kehoe Cup and Shield
Westmeath 0-22 DCU 1-07
Westmeath breezed through to the Kehoe Cup final with a convincing 12-point win over DCU at Cusack Park in Mullingar this afternoon.
Westmeath led by 0-10 to 1-03 at the interval, with Brendan Murtagh (0-05), Derek McNicholas (0-04) and Darren McCormack (0-04) hugely impressive for the hosts.
A Colm Foley goal kept DCU in touch, but the students were very much on the back-foot on the restart.
Murtagh, McNicholas and McCormack continued to impress for Westmeath as the hosts finished deserving winners.
Carlow 1-10 DIT 0-06
Carlow progressed to the Kehoe Cup final as they put an end to
DIT's run at Dr Cullen Park.
DIT led by 0-06 to 0-05 at the interval with Paul Ryan (0-03), Niall
Kelly, Joe Clarke and Richard Butler notching the students' scores.
However the visitors struggled to maintain the pace on the restart, as Carlow exerted total control.
Carlow captain Shane Kavanagh led from defence and was outstanding for the hosts, while a Hugh Paddy O'Byrne goal paved the way for victory.
Kildare 5-20 Longford 1-07
Kildare booked their place in the Kehoe Shield final following a 25-point mauling of Longford at St Conleth's Park, Newbridge.
Longford opened the scoring thanks to a Conor Egan point, but this was the only time the visitors led in the semi-final.
A David Kennedy goal ensured a 1-09 to 0-03 half-time lead for the hosts, who were wind-assisted on the restart.
Second half goals for Kildare from David Cafferty, David Harney, Joe Gleeson and David Kennedy put the result game beyond any doubt.
Louth 0-13 Mayo 0-12
A 73rd minute Trevor Hilliard point ensured Louth progressed to a
Kehoe Shield final against Kildare, following this slender win over
Mayo at Darver.
In a game played on an ideal sod, very little separated the teams
throughout with both sides eager to book a final berth.
They were level at 0-06 apiece at the interval, with Stephen Broderick (0-06) most impressive for the visitors.
Both sides battled strongly on the restart, with Hillard's last-gasp
effort earning Louth victory.
