Round-up of Sunday's Kehoe Cup action
DCU 0-15 Fingal 1-06
DCU's hurlers marched into the Kehoe Cup semi-finals thanks to a deserved six-point win over Fingal at Fingallians this afternoon.
A Cian O'Mahony goal propelled Fingal to a 1-05 to 0-05 interval lead, but they were very much on the back foot in the second half as DCU took control.
The students held the hosts to a single point on the restart as they began to dominate possession. Offaly's Colm Coughlan was the star player on view, top-scoring with 0-05.
DIT 3-18 Down 3-13
A strong display in the second period of extra-time earned DIT a Kehoe Cup semi-final berth, as they saw off Down in Newry.
Pitch conditions were ideal for this high octane encounter with DIT centre-back Stephen Kelly producing a man-of-the-match display.
Goals in normal time from Wexford's Niall Kelly and Brendan McInerney were not enough as Down took the game to extra-time on a 3-12 to 2-15 score-line.
Paul McAllister was the hosts' danger man up front throughout the game, but a goal from Dublin's Paul Ryan sealed a DIT win.
Carlow 1-15 Roscommon 0-08
Carlow withstood a strong second half comeback by Roscommon to register a Kehoe Cup quarter-final win at Dr Cullen Park.
The hosts were impressive in the opening 35 minutes and led by 0-07 to 0-01 at the interval.
Craig Doyle and Colin Hughes finished as joint-top scorers for the hosts with four points each.
Although Roscommon rallied through Tommy Coyne (0-03) and Mervyn Connaughton on the restart, a goal from substitute Willie Hickey pushed Carlow over the finish line.
Westmeath 4-21 Wicklow 1-05
Westmeath were in cruise control as an excellent first half display saw them thump Wicklow by 25 points in Bray.
The visitors bounded out of the blocks and led by 4-15 to 0-02 at half-time with Darren McCormack on fire for the Lake County men. He bagged all four goals.
The sides were evenly matched in the second half with Wicklow pegging a goal back.
However, they were unable to claw their way back into contention and Westmeath sailed into the semi-finals.
KEHOE SHIELD:
Kildare 1-12 Meath 0-12
Ciaran Divilly's 19th-minute goal proved to be the difference as Andy Comerford's Kildare side overcame Meath in their Kehoe Shield encounter at Navan.
The Royals held a 0-07 to 1-03 interval lead with top scorer Niall Hackett in outstanding form.
But Kildareraised their game on the restart. Three points each from Stephen Lyons, David Harney and Oisin Lynch helped the Lilywhites move ahead and advance to the next round.
