Ger Loughnane is no longer the Galway hurling manager after the Galway County Board delegates voted 28 to 26 against his ratification as manager for a third season.
The Clare-native was not present at last night's meeting which was held behind closed doors in Athenry.
Loughnane led Galway to victories over Laois and Antrim in his first Championship season (2007) in charge but also lost to Clare and Kilkenny.
In 2008 he led Galway to the National League Final where they were beaten by Tipperary.
Galway did record victories over Antrim and Laois but they were eliminated from the Championship by Cork in the qualifiers.
Former Offaly manager Michael Bond and Jimmy Heverin, who has guided Portumna to 2 All-Ireland club titles in 3 years, are the front runners to replace him.
