Clare edged a titanic battle with Offaly by 1-10 to 1-08 in the Liberty Insurance Senior Camogie Championship in Birr, while Derry beat Tipperary 2-12 to 1-09.

Visitors Clare had the better of the opening period at St Brendan's, with a goal from Fiona Lafferty giving them a 1-07 to 0-04 interval lead.

Offaly were extremely wasteful in that first half, shooting 11 wides, but they were better after the resumption. A late Siobhán Flannery goal brought them to within touching distance of Colm Honan's crew but it was Clare that held on for the vital win.

Elsewhere, Tipperary had more than enough chances to beat Derry but eventually fell to a 2-12 to 1-09 defeat.

Despite a good start for Tipp, that included points from Cáit Devane and Sarah Fryday, they were caught by a deflected goal from Gráinne McGoldrick, who finished with 1-03.

Karen Kielt was excellent for Derry in the second half at Swatragh and brought her tally to five points.

Amy Kennedy scored an excellent goal for Tipperary but when Gráinne McNicholl found the net at the other end, it was enough for Derry to cement a six-point win.
