Galway v Cork

This is the first competitive fixture for new manager Tony Ward and he will be eager for his charges to hit the ground running.

Little has changed in the way of playing personnel, and Ward will be relying upon the talents of the evergreen Veronica Curtin, Ann Marie Hayes in defence and Brenda Hanney.

Cork have made a hugely positive start to this year’s campaign, under Paudie Murray.

The ever reliable Gemma O’Connor along with Jennifer O’Leary were instrumental in their opening round victory. A close encounter is in store.

Verdict: Cork

Kilkenny v Clare

Kilkenny, under the reign of Brendan Williams, face an uphill battle due to the fact that up to 23 players from last year’s panel are unavailable owing to emigration, injury and work commitments.

Clare will fancy their chances against a depleted Kilkenny side and will look to Chloe Morey and Siobhan Lafferty to lead the way.

Verdict: Clare
