Dublin manager Jim Gavin has confirmed that the 2015 Footballer of the Year Jack McCaffrey will miss this summer's championship due to work commitments in Africa.

Gavin made the announcement following Dublin's win over Cork in the Allianz League, adding that McCaffrey, a fourth year medical student in UCD, will be heading off to Africa to do voluntary work in a hospital.

In January, Dublin full-back Rory O'Carroll announced that he was taking a year out to move to New Zealand.

Despite the strength of Gavin's squad, the absence of McCaffrey and O'Carroll is nevertheless a blow as they strive to win back-to-back All-Ireland titles - a feat last achieved by Kerry in 2006-07.
