Clare's All-Ireland winning captain Pat Donnellan could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines after confirmation that he has torn his cruciate ligament.

The defender, who lifted the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 2013, suffered the injury while playing for the Banner in a challenge match last weekend against Munster club champions Na Piarsaigh.

According to a report in the Clare Herald, the O'Callaghans Mills clubman is due to meet with medical staff in the coming days where his injury will be assessed.

The news comes as a blow to Clare boss Davy Fitzgerald in advance of county's Allianz Division 1B campaign and follows on from Seadna Morey's absence after he underwent surgery in December.
